I’ve had a very frustrating experience with Payless Power, and I feel compelled to warn others. Their policies are extremely tricky—like a spider web. Once you enter into their contract, getting out feels like an endless, painful cycle. I initially signed up for a 3-month prepaid plan. But soon after, I was pushed into a 1-year contract with significantly higher rates. Now that I’m moving to another apartment within the same community, I expected a simple account transfer. Unfortunately, Payless Power refuses to transfer my existing contract, despite me completing 9 months already To make matters worse, they won’t even offer the 6-month plan that is available to new customers. According to their customer service, this plan is not for “existing” customers like me—only new customers qualify. So let me get this straight: if I want to transfer my account, I’m treated as a new customer and forced to open a new account. But when I ask for the new customer plan, I’m told I’m not eligible because I’m an existing customer? That’s completely illogical and unfair. These manipulative and one-sided policies show just how little they care about customer retention or fairness. I feel trapped in a high-rate contract with no reasonable way out. Verdict: Be very cautious before signing up. What looks simple at first may become a costly and frustrating commitment. Their policies are not customer-friendly and lack transparency.

Response: Mr. Tahir, thank you for reaching out and expressing your concerns. Payless Power knows that understanding your plan is very important. New customers are able to start their services through the Power to Choose website. The rates offered there, are introductory rates for our new enrolling customers, where they will have the option of selecting the plan of their choice. When the expiration date is near, customers, will then be offered the option to renew their plan with the rates we have available. Customers also have the choice not to renew plan. All of the details are contained in the renewal notice that we send out in advance of the contract expiration date. We understand that you have had this contract for 9 months, and you are stating that you will be moving to a new apartment. Because you are moving, the contract is ending, and you can avoid the early termination fee by a.) starting services with Payless Power at the new address or b.) you are able to email copy of your new lease, if you wish to start services with a different provider. Please know that you are not trapped. We would love to speak to you to go clarify any misunderstandings that you may be experiencing. Additionally, I would like to advise that you are eligible for a 6-month plan at the new address, but not a PTC plan. Please reach out to our customer care department, at 1-888-963-9363, we are ready to assist you with any questions or concerns. Published on May 30, 2025

Absolutely obscene rates. I’ve never paid so much. Tried to pay my bill today, got an error for “post account, termination scheduled”. I have a positive balance, this should not be. Before I went to bed I tried to pay again, and it went through. Too much stress for a high price to be threatened for no reason when it’s summer heat bearing down. Obscene rates, bad online service, faulty payment system, just a horrible experience. Never again.

I feel like Payless power could do better to protect there customers and our community by not turning of electrical service residential on or during heat waves or during winter months especially during snow or temperatures below 42 degrees. And thoughts on that? And how is this legal what if an elder or child were have died during there negligence.

Response: Jen, thank you for sharing your concerns with us. Payless Power does adhere to all state mandated weather advisories. The state of Texas determines on a county wide basis which accounts should be protected against disconnection due to weather conditions. The State will only allow a local electric utility to complete a disconnection as long as there is not a weather moratorium effective in that county. Please feel free to contact us during standard business hours at 1-888-963-9363 with any questions. Our agents are happy to address any concerns you may have. Published on May 29, 2025
