Kid-Friendly Mother’s Day Energy Tips!

Energy Saving

Mother’s Day, remind your kids of these kid-friendly energy savings tips, so you can enjoy your day even more. Not only will it give you time to relax, but you’re encouraging the kids to be energy-conscious in the future!

1. Turn off the lights

This is an easy one for kids to forget. Try leaving a sticky note above the light switch in their room to subtly remind them to switch off the lights when the room is empty! Sticky notes still not working? Light timers are a great option. Set the lights to be switched on in the evening after dinner, but they should switch off before bedtime. The automatic shutoff is also a good reminder that it’s time for bed!

2. Close the doors

Now that it’s warm outside, it is important that the doors in your home are closed when the air conditioning is on. Remind your kids that after they go outside, they need to shut the door! If all else fails, tell them leaving the door open will bring bugs into their room! This also goes for the refrigerator door as well!

3. Remember Laundry Time

Kids old enough to do their own laundry? Encourage them to wash their clothes on the cold cycle. This will keep your hot water heater from running unnecessarily. Also, make it a fun outdoor activity and have them hang their clothes on a line in the yard!

4. Switch Your Bulbs!

Changing your incandescent light bulbs to LED may not be your kids’ idea of fun, but getting their help to change the bulbs throughout your house can make a big difference in your bill! If the kids are young, definitely provide some supervision, but it’ll be a very fun game for you to see how many kids it takes to change a light bulb!
