Bill sky rocketed over the last 2 weeks. I’m paying daily and I’m the only in my household. Gone most of the day at work and still threaten with disconnection daily. New service agreement is crap and I will not agree to it. I will be taking my money elsewhere. Y’all pls look harder and longer because this company ain’t it.
Response: Hello- We were not able to locate your account under your email. Many customers did experience very high usage during the January Arctic Blast. This was not due to increased rates though. The amount of power that central heat requires to heat a home during prolonged sub-freezing temperatures is considerable. Much higher in fact that the energy it takes to cool a home in 100 degree temps. You are correct in that you can switch providers with no penalty for 14 days following the delivery of the new Terms of Service. Soon as the weather drops the meter reading goes up and doesn’t change even when no power is being used at all. Daily average stays the same, very unreasonable usage readings

That is understandable but Payless Power does not inflate your rates or usage. You are under a fixed price product with a 12-month term. Your rate is locked. Extreme cold can have an enormous on your usage though. Most Texas residents may not realize how much if they have never had daily billing before. Texas winters usually consist of many milder days and colder nights with a couple of intense artic events mixed in. This usually would result in those high winter charges getting averaged down by the time you receive a monthly bill . Its still costing you but you don’t notice as much because of that. Daily billing strips away the façade and that can be shocking but also very educational. You can always audit your usage by registering free of charge at www.smartmetertexas.com. Response: Ms Richardson- Our records show that you were under a fixed rate plan with a 12-month contract. Payless Power did not raiser your rates or your usage. However, cold weather like we experienced the weekend of January 20th will usually result in sharp increases in electricity usage. When, you see news stories during cold weather about ERCOT asking the public to conserve energy , it’s a reflection of what’s going on in homes across the state. It takes a lot of extra energy to warm a home during extreme cold spells. I’ve reviewed your usage and can see why you would be alarmed . it was very, very high. You may want to have an HVAC tech inspect your heating system and also, please avoid using the auxiliary heat setting on your thermostat if possible. Heating strips in a 2 stage heat pump consume about 3X the energy as the normal heat setting . Published on February 19, 2024
Payless power charges customers when the power and meter are not even running. I got charged daily when centerpoint had my power completely off from the main. False billing

Our records do show that we opened a billing review on your behalf which confirmed that there were estimated meter reads generated as a result of your power being shut off due to work occurring at the home.
