While the city’s residential electricity rates are 15% less than the national average, Texas ranks sixth highest in usage due to the state’s warm climate. How Dallas Electricity Rates Compare

Texas ranks sixth in overall energy consumption per capita. For residential electricity, Dallas homeowners and renters consume about 937 kWh per month, while the national average is just shy of 900 kWh. Dallas residents may see lower electricity bills than other Texas cities, like Houston for example, because the climate is less humid and wholesale power is cheaper. Texas’s statewide rate of 12.28 cents per kWh is about 12% lower than the average U.S. electricity rate of 13.83 cents per kWh.

Nationwide, commercial electricity rates average 11.78 cents per kWh, with Texas’s commercial rates costing 8.47 cents per kWh. In addition to traditional power sources (natural gas, coal, oil), Texas leads the U.S. in wind electricity generation and is fifth in solar power.
