Prepaid is not strange in Dallas, as there are many services e.g some gym membership, morning lattes, and tickets to games whose services are prepaid. There are also quite a number of people who’ve subscribed to prepaid electricity plans.
The Dallas energy market has experienced significant growth since 2005, characterized by an increased number of Retail Energy providers – thanks to energy deregulation. There are many electricity providers that offer prepaid electricity and all offer different rates and different modes of payment. However, these plans can be classified into two i.e. variable and fixed prepaid plans.
One of the features that distinguish prepaid from postpaid electricity plans is its same-day electricity service. Read along for more on these.
Same day electricity service is one of the key features that are offered by most prepaid electricity plans. It is an important feature that you need to consider when choosing an electricity supplier, especially if you are moving into a new home and you require electricity connected urgently. There are a few things that you will need to do for you to get connected to electricity on the same day.
The first step is to compare different electricity rates, which can be done online. Go through all the prepaid electricity plans offering same-day electricity connection, paying more attention to services offered and prices. After you’ve gone through all the options and gathered all the required information, the next step is to choose an electricity supplier. Choose one that best meets your needs.
Once that is done, complete an online registration using either a computer or a phone. You can also opt to call the provider directly and get yourself registered.
During the registration process, you’ll be required to choose between move-in or switch. The “Switch” option is meant for those clients who’ve already registered for an electricity plan under their name but want to change electricity providers. Move-in on the other hand, is ideal for those individuals who are moving into a new house and want to register for the electricity for the first time.
After you’ve completed the application process, the electricity supplier will then relay an electronic transaction to the respective local utilities. Your electricity will be turned on the moment the transaction is complete.
If you decide to register with Payless Power, re-connection usually takes 4 to 6 hours for standard smart meters. However, there are some instances where the electricity connection is delayed, and this is mostly caused by meters that can be switched on remotely.
Prepaid electricity plan, as the name suggests, is a kind of an electric plan where you are required to pay before use. It is a simple process that involves registration, payment, usage, and monitoring. It is available in Maryland, Texas, and other states where energy has been deregulated. One of the things that make prepaid electricity attractive to many customers is the fact that it requires no deposit, no credit checks, or a long term contract. It offers a significant shift from the traditional post-paid electricity plan where you had to wait for the bill at the end of the month to determine how much to pay.
Prepaid plans have taken power away from the electricity providers and placed it on your hands by giving you control over your electricity bill. It is up to you to determine your electricity consumption rate and how much to pay per month.
Most prepaid electric companies have varied plans tailored for different customers based on their consumption rates and other needs. The majority of residential consumers that have billed meters are charged a significant amount to cater for installation services which covers some of the costs incurred in setting up the electricity network e.g. cost of cables, transformers, poles, etc.
Apart from these costs, they are also charged a fixed rate every month in addition to the actual electricity price. As a result, the rate per unit is a bit lower.
For prepaid plans, on the other hand, you are only charged for the energy consumed though at a slightly high rate. That said, however, prepaid electricity allows you to decide when to pay and how much to pay. It has no deposit fee and no surprise charges like is the case with most traditional, long-term electricity contracts. How much you pay is fully dependent on your consumption rate i.e the more you consume, the more you pay.
With prepaid electricity, you don’t get billing statements at the end of the month since you are required to pay before use. All you need to do is to deposit some amount of money into your prepaid electricity account and you are good to go. Your daily meter reading is done remotely and alerts on your account balance and consumption rates are sent to you either through a text message or an email.
There are various ways you can use to pay your prepaid electric bill. For instance, several electric companies allow online payment – Payless Power included. You can also pay using your credit or visa card. Alternatively, you can opt to pay in cash through money gram or set-up an auto-pay on your bank account so that a certain amount is deducted automatically on the stipulated dates. You can also pay using your mobile phone.
