Company Getting Out of Coal Power Generation, Closing Texas Plant in 2028
Xcel Energy is retiring its fleet of coal-fired power plants ahead of schedule, including northwest Texas’ Tolk plant in 2028, in favor of renewable energy efforts. The company plans to be coal-free by 2031, investing in cleaner energy sources like wind and solar across its eight-state service territory.
