Brandon Young
Native Texan Brandon Young co-founded Payless Power with his two brothers, Brian and Byron, in 2005. The three brothers continue to manage the prepaid power company’s operations today, with Brandon serving as CEO since 2009. Their driving objective is to provide affordable, reliable electricity service to fellow Texas residents and businesses, regardless of credit history. Under Brandon’s leadership, Payless Power has grown to one of the top Retail Electric Providers in Texas, recognized by its affordable electricity and excellent customer service.
Before his leadership at Payless Power, Brandon and his brothers founded New Talk, a prepaid telephone service company that provided home telephone services to underserved communities. They wanted to offer budget-conscious families reliable phone services. At New Talk, Brandon served as senior vice president and marketing director. Brandon, Brian, and Byron came by their entrepreneurial spirit honestly, inheriting their work ethic from their grandfather who co-founded a plastics company with his brother in 1953.
As Payless Power CEO, Brandon is passionate about ensuring state leaders prioritize a reliable Texas power grid and offer consumers fair prices, especially following the fallout of Winter Storm Uri in early 2021. To that end, Brandon founded Texans for Fair Energy Billing (TXFEB), a consumer advocacy alliance made up of business, consumer, industrial, and energy groups, including Payless Power.
TXFEB works to ensure small retail electric providers have a voice and to protect customers from cost increases caused by lack of infrastructure improvements and weatherization safeguards. The organization advocates for accountability and justice as they seek to correct punitive energy and ancillary service charges, and to urge state officials to investigate overpricing and market power abuse during Winter Storm Uri. Under Brandon’s leadership, TXFEB is actively involved in community education and supporting legislative efforts to protect Texas energy consumers and a fair market for providers of all sizes.
Payless Power’s people-first values helped protect their customers during the devastating 2021 Winter Storm Uri by providing an option to immediately turn on lights and by not passing on astronomical rate hikes via indexed pricing. Real-time wholesale indexed pricing will never be sold by Payless Power.
