With the holiday’s coming up, you will likely spend a lot more time in your kitchen! Cooking, baking, preparing family dinners...sounds like the holiday season! Here are some helpful tips on making your kitchen energy efficient, while helping you save money.

1. Fill your fridge!

A full fridge is a happy fridge! Have you ever heard the trick of putting a water bottle in your freezer to keep it more cold? A similar theory goes for the fridge. By keeping plenty of goods in your fridge, the more it holds its temperature when opening and closing, therefore the less energy you will use!

2. Speaking of refrigerators, what temperature is yours?

Set your fridge temperature to 35 degrees Fahrenheit. This way, your fridge will be cool enough to keep your groceries fresh, but not too cold that the back half of the fridge is frozen!

3. Run the dishwasher only when it is full!

This may seem like an obvious one, but only running the dishwasher when it is full can save you loads of money! Also, newer dishwashers were made to get food remains off your dishes. So that means no need for pre-rinsing and wasting water!

4. Unplug unused appliances!

We’re not asking you to unplug your fridge, but by unplugging your smaller kitchen counter appliances like toasters or blenders, you can save money on your energy bill. Even though the appliances may not be in use, they are still running up your energy bill!
