Warm weather days are upon us, but is your air conditioner ready for the change? Be sure your AC unit is prepared to work efficiently during the warmer months. Here are some simple steps you can take:
1. Change the Filters
If you feel like your air conditioning unit is not running as efficiently as it has in the past, there’s a good chance you need to change the filters. Dusty and dirty filters don’t only foul up the works with your AC unit, but can also cause allergies to be intensified. We use these general rules of thumb for changing filters: write the change date on the side of the new filter, or change them once a season.
2. Clean Your Coils
Your AC unit is made up of coils to help cool your home properly. If your evaporator coil is dirty, it can inhibit air to move through, and won’t cool your home quickly. Likewise, if your condenser coil is dirty, the AC unit will not be able to push the heat out of your home. Cleaning the coils could be something that requires the work of an expert, so keep this in mind before trying to clean them yourself.
3. Call an HVAC Professional
It never hurts to have your HVAC unit inspected and repaired by a certified HVAC professional. They will help you determine any issues your unit may be having. The average tune up can cost anywhere between $70-$100. Catching an HVAC issue early could be worth the price of the tune up if it means avoiding having to replace it entirely!
