New Year’s resolutions are hard to keep…but they don’t have to be! Instead of setting unreachable goals for your New Year’s resolution, why not set attainable, energy savings goals? Here are a few easy energy savings tips that can lower your home energy bills to set as your resolutions for 2017.
1. Install Dimmers
By installing dimmers on your light switches throughout your home, your traditional bulbs lifespan could last a bit longer. However, incandescent light bulbs will not be as efficient as LED bulbs with a dimmer!
2. Use LEDs
After you’ve installed dimmers on your light switches, replace your incandescent light bulbs with LED bulbs. Not only do LED bulbs last longer than traditional bulbs, but they can help save you money! LED bulbs use at least 75% less energy than regular bulbs, and last up to 50 times longer than incandescent bulbs. Talk about savings! Find LED bulbs at your nearest hardware or home improvement store with the ENERGY STAR logo to ensure high quality and top performance.
3. Set Your Water Heater to 120 Degrees Fahrenheit
Out of all your home appliances, your water heater uses the most energy. Luckily, changing your water heater to this setting is easy, and only needs to be done once for great savings!
4. Use Cold Water When Doing Laundry
Don’t use hot water unnecessarily, unless you must. By only using cool water while doing laundry, your water heater won’t even need to kick on!
5. Set Your Thermostat Back
Set your thermostat back 8-15 degrees Fahrenheit during the day when no one is home. Why spend money heating your home when no one is there to benefit from it? Your energy bill certainly will be thanking you for setting the temperature back!
