Water and energy utility bills can rack up quickly, especially in the summer. Check out these five simple ways you can help reduce your overall utility costs by saving both water and energy in your bathroom!
1. Take cold showers
Cold showers save energy because your water heater does not have to use energy to heat the water. Cold showers not only save energy, they can also keep your hair and skin healthy by not drying them out with the warm water.
2. Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth
Make sure you turn off your sink while brushing your teeth. No need to waste water in your bathroom while you get ready in the morning.
3. Install a water-saving shower head
High-efficiency shower heads reduce the amount of water you use while taking a shower, which also reduces the amount of water your hot water heater has to warm. Installing an efficient shower head, along with taking shorter showers, will help you reduce your overall water use.
4. Unplug hot tools
Some hair styling tools use energy while plugged in even if they aren’t turned on. In order to avoid any extra power use, keep devices such as hair dryers, curling irons, flat irons and other styling tools unplugged when they’re not being used.
Use the bathroom extractor fan sparingly
Use the fan in the bathroom only when needed. Open a window to create circulation instead. If the fan is needed, always remember to turn off the fan as soon as you can.
