1. Lubbock

The city of Lubbock ranks high as one of the largest in the state, with over 250,000 residents. If you’re a fan of the fun nightlife and busy streets, then the city might be a good option for you.

Because it’s a large city, the crime rate isn’t as low as some of our other options. However, it makes up for that by ranking high in public education, things to do, and diversity. 

Lubbock is not only one of the best places to live in Lubbock County but also in the state of Texas. It has a highly-populated suburban vibe, lots of parks, and plenty of homeowners with families. 

2. Wolfforth

The Lubbock suburb has a respectable population of almost 5,000 people and offers some excellent public schools in a low-crime area. It’s an affordable area where people like to raise their families and own their homes. 

This fast-growing area is full of friendly neighbors, local businesses, a farmer’s market, and beautiful landscapes. It’s certainly a nice place to call home. It’s also just a short drive from the city of Lubbock if you’re looking for a night out. 

3. Shallowater

Overall, Shallowater is considered one of the best places to live within the Lubbock area. With many rankings, such as Niche, it rates high across its education system, housing, crime, and diversity. 

Living in Shallowater is particularly attractive due to its affordable housing. The median home price is about $150,000, while the average rent is about $900. This safe and friendly neighborhood may not have much of a nightlife, but it’s a great place to raise a family. 

4. Idalou

Idalou is a small, conservative town that isn’t too loud or busy but has enough residents to make for a well-rounded community of families and residents. With just over 2,000 people, you can get to know your neighbors without feeling overwhelmed by the city.

Idalou is excellent in most areas: highly-rated public schools, affordable housing, and good crime rates. The rural environment is pleasant for families, and the average home costs around $110,000. You can also find some charming churches in Idalou!

5. Abernathy

Abernathy is an exceptionally livable town in Lubbock County with a population of 3,200. From cost of living to crime rates, everything in this town is below the state average. While there may not be a whole lot of nightlife or amenities nearby, you can ensure it’s a safe and affordable area for your family. 

Abernathy is also just about 18 miles from the city of Lubbock, so you can always get your nightlife fix on the weekend.

6. West Carlisle

West Carlisle is a suburban neighborhood in Lubbock County with a diverse population of single-family homes and apartment complexes. Residents of this area tend to fall into the upper-middle class and include many families with children and college-age students.

The small population enjoys good public schools along with their renowned volunteer fire department. It’s also not far from historical places, museums, and Lubbock Lake Landmark. 

7. Buffalo Springs

Anyone who has visited Buffalo Springs agrees that it makes for a nice getaway from the city of Lubbock. This tiny area has a population of just around 500 people. It’s a popular place for camping, fishing, boating, and even concerts. 

Buying a home in Buffalo Springs is affordable, but rent is high. However, it does see low crime with average public schools, and it sits right on a beautiful lake that simply doesn’t get old. 

Buffalo Springs is only about 20 minutes from the city of Lubbock, so you’re never too far from some nightlife. It makes for a lovely oasis just outside of the noise and chaos of city life. 

8. New Deal

New Deal is one of the smallest towns in Lubbock County, in contrast to the large city of Lubbock. With a population of under 1,000, you might wonder why anyone would want to move here.

However, New Deal is a safe place with good public schools and a suburban-rural atmosphere. There are many jobs in this town, and the cost of living is well below the state average. 

New Deal offers a mix of charming and modern, with wineries, museums, and plenty of farms nearby. 

9. Slaton

While it doesn’t sit at the top of our list, Slaton is still a nice place to live in Lubbock County. This town offers above-average public schools with good crime rates and decent housing. While many people tend to rent in this area, you can find reasonable prices on homes too. 

Slaton is a diverse neighborhood that’s highly affordable. This small community could use a little bit of work, and you may see it as more of a temporary home, but it’s safe for families and has plenty of charm.  

10. Ransom Canyon 

Ransom Canyon is another small town with just over 1,000 residents. This mostly conservative area has many blossoming families growing up, though their education system could use a little bit of work as it’s just average. 

Almost everyone owns their home in Ransom Canyon, and overall, it’s an affordable and safe place to live. If you’re looking for a quiet, unassuming town, then Ransom Canyon may be a good choice for you.
