Its summertime, which means it is the perfect time for entertaining. Everyone loves to get together, to hang out and catch up, but sometimes the extra energy costs of having guests over can be daunting. Check out these tips on how host an energy-efficient yet awesome party this summer.
1. Grill and serve no-bake recipies
Grilling will save you energy by reducing the electricity used by the oven. Outdoor cooking also lessens the amount of heat that accumulates during baking or cooking indoors and removes the need to crank the AC. No-bake recipes like salads, appetizers and desserts can save you even more energy and are perfect for your summer bash!

2. Keep your oven closed as much as possible
If you must use the oven, keep the door closed as much as possible by checking dishes using the oven light. If your oven doesn’t have a window or light, try and avoid checking food until it is near the end of its cooking time. This will keep the heat in the oven and out of the kitchen!
3. Store drinks in a cooler
Put drinks, fruits and veggies and other items that need to be kept in a cooler filled with ice rather than a refrigerator. This saves energy because your refrigerator doesn’t have to work extra hard to recover from guests constantly opening the door and letting the cool air out.
4. Hang out outside
Hosting an outdoor party saves energy. First, being outdoors reduces the amount of lighting being used in your house, which keeps your home both cooler and more energy efficient. Outdoor entertaining also prevents the body heat of your guests from turning your home into a sauna.
5. Take advantage of naturally cool areas
If the weather or your living situation doesn’t allow for an outdoor party, hang out in areas of the house that are naturally cooler, like a basement or a den. Make sure to use fans to create circulation instead of blasting the AC.
